I have heard that McDonald's food is not real food. Meaning that it could be anything other than what a person could expect. Is that true?

The food is all real. Don't worry about that. What you need to worry about is how it's prepared and how old it is when you eat it. I worked at McDonalds for 2 years back in high school. I used to think the same thing as you, but I would walk around in the cooler and freezer once in a while, getting food for the grill area, and look at the boxes and make sure they were real food. They all said 100% beef patties, Chicken breast, etc. So the food is real. Now, when the food is made, McDonalds has certain rules as to how to make it. When the beef is cooked, the grease isn't allowed to be drained off of it. I used to drain it because I thought it was gross that there was a crapload of grease in one tiny hamburger, and they wouldn't let me make beef patties anymore. If you pick up a patty and wring it out like a rag, you can get A LOT of grease out of it. It's unbelievable. Then, all the food (beef, fish, and chicken) sits in it's tray's in a heating element. The burgers usually don't look completely done when you first make them. They cook longer in the heating element. And they sit there soaking up their own grease and some from the patties around it. The stuff is supposed to be thrown away after 15-30 minutes, but that hardly happens. I worked for a cheap bastard who wanted to save money...so we ended up having to sell food that was HOURS old. How gross is that. The Crispy Chicken, McChicken, and Chicken Selects would be rock hard from being so old. When the fish and fries got old they just got soggy. A lot of times people didn't put gloves on to make the food...meaning they touched your pickles, onions, cheese, lettuce, buns, and whatever else, with their bare hands. And they may not have washed their hands before. One summer, the windows were always open and flies were swarming the place. We weren't allowed to have fly paper hanging around because it wasnt's clean. Well, neither were the french fried flies that people found in their french fries all the time. GROSS! So, I refuse to eat anything at McDonalds now. Working there turned me off of it. I wouldn't recommend you going there anymore either. But if you do, ALWAYS ask for everything fresh. And don't buy their bull crap if they tell you everything is fresh. This goes for all fast food places. Good luck and I hope this helped.

EDIT:
As for turtle m's comment, not everything is microwaved. Only soup (sometimes), hotcakes, mcgriddles, and burritos are microwaved.

I think what the person was refering to as not "real" food would probably be the meats, like hamburger. Most of the hamburger that McDonalds uses is dairy meat. Now there is nothing wrong with using this type of meat, only that dairy cows are not ment for meat, but for milk. Alot of sale barn meats {cows that are sent through a sale barn usually badly injured or slightly sick} are sent to McDonalds. But you don't see anyone getting sick from this. In fact many resturants besides McDonalds uses meats like these.
As for the chicken I would say it was pretty much any part of the chicken that isn't fine meat and that could be squished into a small finger food lol.
And for the fish...I'm not a fisherman and I have no clue what they would use. But I would guess it would be a finer grade because of the chance of it tasting "fishy".
Even though I know all this being a meat producer {but of finer meats} I still have to say McDonalds is one of my favorite fast food chains! :)

What you heard is true, but not at all McDonalds, just at some.
IT all depends on how good of mangagement and employee performance they have. I once went to a Mcdonalds and they gave me the wrong order, the employees didn't care, because they were tired, and the fries were too salty. BUt I went to one last week, and the food and the service were both good. The order was correct, too.

McDonalds isn't bad for you, it's just that it contains alot of grease and saturated fat. To much of it could be bad for your body, but if you have it at least once a week that would be fine. Or also you could have the salads from there and some water that is healthy for you.

From what I understand, McDonald's hamburgers are made from "soy", meaning soy beans & meat kind of like the crappy burgers you would eat in elementary school. Their chicken used to be rib meat and all the extra junk that was left over but they now have a sign that says "100% white meat chicken" well it took them long enough!!!! Wendy's had real white meat for like forever!!!! It's all gross & WAY TO FATTENING ANYWAYS!!! Go get some subway! LOL!!!!!

there's nothing wrong with mcdonalds. however, if u eat it everyday or multiple times a week, its bad. eating it once a month is like the recommended amount of fast food that a human should consume.

The meat is real cow and chicken, I don't know what the people have been telling you but what is there conception of Real Food? The potato's are real. I guess the bottom line is that Micky Dee's doesn't use tofu. It isn't always the best food for you, though.

McDonald's publishes the content of their food, however, I think some of their food has been replaced by healthier alternatives like Soy burgers, I had a cheese burger the other day and it didn't taste like meat, it tasted like a soy burger

It is real food. It is just real bad for you. But it tastes real good to some people. I hate it real bad. My kids think it is the real deal. They are real lucky if I take them there once a month. It is also not real cheap, though one may think it is. You can go to a real restaurant and get a real meal for about the same price.

I don't think. Many people (including you, I'm sure) have been eating it for many years. If they are not real food, it's either we the consumer are stupid for not realising it after so long, or our food administration dept in our countries sucks big time!
