the term "beta" in regard to software denotes a product being tested for functionality. it is not a finished product.

Mail Beta is a service which has new features, such as added space and a new look, but the developers release it as a beta so people can test it and find bugs/flaws.

Nothing happens if you dont switch; you just stay w/ your current setup

When software is stated to be "beta", the developers are saying that the software version is a pre-release revision of the next production version of the software. Beta software typically is "feature complete" which means that it has all of the features and functionality that the next production release is supposed to have, but there may be some bugs remaining in the software. In most cases, and remaining known bugs are not catastrophic. However, testing beta software with production data can be risky. Another pre-release level is referred to as "alpha". This revision typically is not "feature complete", and may have significant bugs that may include catastrophic failure. The practice of releasing versions that are not final production revisions are done to help track down bugs, and to get user feedback.

Beta is a quasi-technical term meaning, basically:

"We aren't done with this feature yet, but it's good enough for someone to use. Please use it and tell us how it works for you or how it doesnt work or how you'd like it to work, so we can improve it."

Yahoo Mail Beta is a more interactive interface than regular Yahoo Mail, allows shortcut keys like "m" for check mail, and allows you to right-click things to get a menu. Basically, it looks and feels like a Windows program, not a Web page, but without downloading anything. I recommend you try it-- you may like it.

it's just a new mail setting.. nothing won't happen to you if you are not going to use it.. if you have a yahoo account, you can actually try it and if you are not comfortable, you can always switch back to the original yahoo mail setup..

you can actually work around with the yahoo mail beta, it looks like an outlook stuff..

Well, the definition for Beta is "a nearly complete prototype of a product." So I guess it means prototype mail. It's being tested.

a beta is a program that is under test by the public, and if there is any bugs in it you report it to who ever is writing the program.

if you do not switch nothing will happen you will just carry on as normal
