I'm guessing a lot of people obsess over celebrities for the same reasons I obsess over fictional characters.
It's a way to safely feel like we're involved in the lives of really interesting people, without actually *being* involved. It adds drama and excitement to our lives, but it's *safe* drama and excitement, because it isn't real. So it can't hurt you, like real drama can.

I think the reason why people obsess over celebrities is because they don't like their own lives and have nothing better to do with their time.
And of course they usually like celebrities that are the filthiest, sickest, and sleeze bags around. I wish they would pick police officers, military, scientists, astronauts and others instead.

STOP THIS.
Most Americans DO NOT obsess about celebrities.
THE MEDIA does. The MEDIA is made up of RETARDED, CYNICAL people who THINK they know what Americans want. They DONT.
I have never in my life met a single person who has an iota of interest in Paris Hilton.
