I'm looking for songs that are about moving forward into something new, and the emotions felt about it. They can be about the reluctance/sadness to leave, or about the joy of what's to come. They can also be bittersweet, or contain fear for the future/an apprehension to let go. Anything about moving away or leaving someone behind is great, as well as songs about graduation or getting older/growing up/coming of age. Songs about time passing are appreciated, too. I'm not looking for angsty break up songs.

Right now, I've got "Wide Open Spaces" by the Dixie Chicks, "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver, "Watching the River Run" by Loggins and Messina, "Roam if She Wants To" by the B-52s, "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by The Byrds, etc.

Any style/genre is perfectly fine.

Thanks so much!

Separate Ways by Journey was the first song that popped in my head, but that might be kind of cheesy. How about....
3 Doors Down - When I'm Gone
Mindy Smith - One Moment More
Beth Orton - Thinking About Tomorrow
Michelle Branch - Goodbye to You
The Association - Walk Away Renee
Spice Girls - Goodbye
Stevie Nicks - I Miss You

Here's one with a very impressive (and surprising) smooth Southern Rock flavor from, of all bands, Molly Hatchet called "The Rambler".

You'll also like "Time Passages" by Al Stewart. "Soulful Terrain" by Eric Johnson

"Fly Away" by Sugarland

Oh I swear this town
Gets smaller every day
And I'm waiting for my chance
I'm gonna break away
I'm so sick and tired of being told what's good for me
People got lots of ideas of who I'm supposed to be

Angel carry me
Oh so far away
May my body never
Touch the ground
And if I promise you
I'll be back someday
Will you set me free
So I can fly away
Fly away, fly away

Well most folks here
They don't dig too deep
They can't dream too big
Cause they've got fields to keep
I could walk away and leave behind my family
Or get buried alive in this legacy

Angel carry me
Oh so far away
May my body never
Touch the ground
And if I promise you
I'll be back someday
Will you set me free
So I can fly away
Fly away, Fly away

I wanna sleep under a different piece of sky
I wanna live a little bit before I die
I wanna be so close to heaven I see angels

Carry me
Oh so far away
May my body never
Touch the ground
And if I promise you
I'll be back someday
Will you set me free
So I can fly away
Fly away, Fly away

Don't Think Twice It's Alright by Bob Dylan

"I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right"
