I've had good luck with Black Flag Wasp & Hornet Spray. You can hit a nest about 10 feet away. Hint: spray the nest early morning when its still cool out. Most of the wasps will still be inside and the insecticide will be more effective.

The safest way to destroy a paper wasp (or any hanging) nest is with a pressurized bomb specifically made for wasps. Please follow these guidelines when using a bomb.

DO NOT use a household insecticide like Raid. These work too slowly and you will not have enough time to get away from the angry swarm.
Follow all of the directions on the bomb carefully.
Stand about eight to ten feet away from the nest.
Try to aim the stream right at the nest’s opening. If it is hitting the outside of the nest it will still kill the insects, just a little more slowly.
Please note that there is still a good chance that you will get stung while trying to destroy the nest. Do not attempt to do this yourself if you are allergic to wasp stings.this is off the web. i dont do this myself. i simply use a high pressure nozzle on a garden hose or my pressure washer and just blow the nest away. i then hit the are where the nest was with long squirting wasp insecticide to discourage them from coming back.

We spray them after dark when they are inactive. We know they nest under our hand railing and behind our shutters, so we just go out there with a flashlight and spray the nests we find. After spraying, we knock them down with a stick. No stings yet!

You can get the spray can to shoot them out of the air. If you don't want to get stung, then call an exterminator company to come do it. Of course, then your bank account gets stung intead of your body.
