Have you checked the coil wire?
Did you check the primary and secondary sides of the coil for correct resistance?
If they are sound, it probably needs the ignition module. Mounted on the side of the distributor.
The reluctor inside the distributor is also a known failure point on this Ford.
Refer to a repair manual for diagnostic routine necessary to isolate and repair the cause.

Sounds like you have a bad coil wire or you are not getting enough fire out of coil. I would change coil wire, if that don't work , then change coil and cap. Make sure you have 12 volts at the coil.

possible causes would be bad ignition module which is probably the most common. Also the pick up coil or maybe the 12 volt line is not there which would be at the connector that comes from the wiring harness. Hope this helps you out.

its either the power coil or the distributor, if you have juice to the coil but no spark at all than the distributer is fried.. its an 87 so that sounds right for a distrib. to go out around now.

Probaby the ignition module under the cap, not too expensive, not too hard to change.
