No, it is not possible for a contact lens to get lost behind the eye. The contact lens can only stay on the front of the eye, or under your eyelid, if displaced. The eye has a protective barrier that covers the white of the eye and loops under the upper and lower lids to prevent a contact lens from moving behind it. So maybe you just drop it or something.

A multitude of connecting tissues prevent the contact from disappearing behind the eye. If it is still in your eye it is folded and stuck under one of you eyelids. The odds are though, that you popped it out. The fold would have given the lens an uneven surface to catch on the lids when you blink. Look around the place that you were working with them, it's probably on the counter or on the floor right in front of where you were standing. It might even be stuck to the back of your hand or the front of your shirt. Good Luck.

Yes, I am not making this up, my soft contact lens emerged from my eye about three days later after I tried to remove it. I knew it was there, I could feel it the whole three days - I put contact lens solution in my eye and massaged my eyelid. Bizarre. I

Sometimes contacts can get stuck on the sides of the eye, in that case it might be uncomfortable to blink. if you look closely in the mirror, you can usually tell where it is. try blinking a few times and see if it comes out.
hope that helps.
