How very, very sad to see everyone voting negative to this question. You know that you create your own reality, right? If nobody believes in world peace then how can it happen?
Well, I don't care. I believe it will happen, though it could take centuries, if we have that long. From my own observations, it seems world peace can only come around when everyone has peace within themselves.
Don't try to change the world. Change yourself and everything else will fall into place.

The Humanistic answer for world peace is unity, coming from incremental syncretism and ecumenicalism under a single, one-world governing body.
We will reach world peace. However, it will be at the expense of righteousness -- for all ideologies, philosophies, and theologies will be combined and dilluted, eliminating any truth present in any of them.
This is good news if you believe in moral relativism. It is bad news if you do not, unless you are a Christian who believes that after the Antichrist comes the real Christ.

I don't think it will ever happen. Just from reading Yahoo Answers over time you can see what a high percentage of the people are pro-war, pro-killing, against peace initiatives and just totally intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them. It is hard to have peace in that environment.

World peace WILL occur eventually, but it must occur after many people have died and it will come as its own New Age of humanity. World War the most likely cause, or maybe an asteroid hitting.

Yes, but world peace may not be all its cracked up to be....
It is very possible that it would take a great, obvious threat to us as a species to unite such a diverse and polar world population.
So, World peace may not cause a golden age or utopian society, but develop as a result of a devastating crisis. Maybe we are better off without it....

I think world peace is against human nature. There are a lot of sociological reasons that keep us from wanting it or even allowing it to happen. In america it's sort of difficult to see because we're fairly isolated compared to europe and asia, but for them, the constant mix of different groups leads to an over powering force distinguish and fight for identification and resources.

No, world peace is impossible. Unless everybody decides that they are equal to everybody else and we become a unified world, then it is impossible. But we can't even get peace among ourselves and others around us, what makes anyone expect world peace to even be a possibility.

The only way peace will ever be is for the world to become completely homogeneous.

We would either have to end fear or unite in fear, and face fear. Our psyche can only handle fear for so long. If a meteor were speeding towards earth, choas might erupt at first, but as reality sets in, we'd all try to find inner peace really fast.
