good question. and a good answer would be to use what came in the car or was an option. the 350 olds motor. believe it or not it had more horsepower stock then a stock 350 chevy. if you want to make it pretty mean and still maintain emissions legal in phx then you will have to be carefull with carb'd systems. but if you dont really care about that then get the edelbrock olds350rpm intake, the .496/.520 cam and spring kit. top off with a good carb say 600 cfm then re jet it for your application. that will net you some pretty decent power, a good set of headers will also help you out. you will net around 400 hp. now as far as beating the z or ss that will also depend on what ratio that spinless 10 bolt 7.5 has. best bet on that would be to get rid of it for something stronger cause you will break it if you get a good launch. i did it with a built 307 olds motor with the same combonation i just mentioned to you. if you are worried about emissions legallity's then you could always swap in an Lt1 or Ls1 and all the goodies that go with it. and living in phx for awhile you have to have all the emissions systems and everything working for it to pass the sniffer test to keep it legal. best place to look for what your wanting is down on broadway in the salvage yard district. try A and C or carols. if you can find him ask around for richie rich and tell him what your wanting to due and he should be able to help set you up with what you need. last i knew he was working at big daddy's parts yard. good luck and hope this helps. If you do find richie tell him the guy that owns the V-8 Monza from a few years back says hello.

Put an LT1 small block chevy in it and you'll have those Camaros begging for mercy. It was used in several different GM cars, even the Buick Roadmaster. You might want to do some homework, but I'm betting that the LT1 will slip right into your presently gutless cutlass.

I hope this helps :>)))
