Many scientists believe in a multiverse (aka meta-universe, omniverse, alternate reality) which is made up of parallel universes. The theory is that there is an infinite number of realities based on the decisions we make and the lives we touch.

The idea has been examined in hundreds of sci-fi and fantasy novels, television, and movies. "It's a Wonderful Life" is basically a parallel universe in which George was never born. Then, there was "Back to the Future," in which Marty changed his family's destiny by going back in time. Many novels explore "what-if" situations, such as what if Hitler won WW2.

But do they exist, and if so, will it ever be possible to travel from one to another? And if time travel eventually becomes possible, might it be possible for us to completely change the present by going into the past?

..this is a pretty damn hard question for which there are basically no answers...well i've thought about time travel OCCASIONALLY and here's something i came up with:

lets say everyone had access to a time machine. and that we all had an oppurtunity to go back in the past and into the future. and herein lies the problem: "reality" would CONSTANTLY be changing, because we would all affect the outcome of the world; basically there would no longer be any past, present or future. so, in my opinion, there is no parallel universe or dimension or whatevr you want to call it.

hope that helps, kinda.

No, it has become the "magic bullet" to explain all the laws of physics and quantum mechainics they can't figure out, while nothing in religion rules out the possibility, it is easy to see where some claim physicists are just creating another religion to challenge the old ones. Gravity alone has proven very pesky as far as complying with the "obvious" laws we are taught in school. I don't have the magic answer (unless it really IS 42?), but no, I don't believe in the parrallel universe or "string theory". We are stuck in this universe, black holes are just big trash compactors, when everything gets sucked in it probably just goes "BANG" (again?) and unwinds to start over. Nothing mankind does, says or thinks, really makes a difference, that is the part most people can never comprehend.

I actually believe that we have "Inverse" universes. Inverse realities, think about it....for every thing in this universe (including math and physics) there is an opposite or an inverse. Personally, I think that the omniverse is really an infinite space with expanding and contracting mediums...
I think that black holes are a way for universes to vent energy into another....

Time is like a scale......pos numbers and neg numbers....our inverse universe is probably diminishing in size and will contract until another big bang.
