hello, my daughter is 9 weeks old and is constipated, I have tried massageing her belly, putting her legs up tp her chest, prune and apple juice. Nothing seems to work. we went to the doctor's today. he didn't help much, he just told me to try the same things that I have already tried. I have even switched her to a low in iron formula, and that's not helping. I don't want to see her in pain anymore, any other suggestions.

Try Karo syrup. I get the dark karo syrup and put 1 teaspoon in a 4oz bottle. It really works! I usually give my daughter one bottle a day to keep her normal. Some people also use suppositories (sorry bout the spelling), but I can't get myself to use those.

Try an ounce of Dark Karo Syrup in four ounces of formula. You can do this once a day. With my second daughter her pediatrician told me to do this. It really works, even though others say it does not. It worked wonders for her and my son....and it did not have any side effects at all. It made them feel much better. It usually works in a couple hours too. There are two kinds of Karo Syrup...regular and dark. For some reason only the dark one works. I know what it is like seeing them like that. Mine were on Soy Formula and they got constipated alot. Try it. It really works!

I would have to say you should try adding an extra ounce of water to her formula when you mix it. Espiecially if you were previously breastfeeding (then I would say 2 extra ounces). Also you may want to try Nestle Goodstart formula, since it is the easiest on a baby's little system. Start with the extra water right away, then slowly and gradually you can add less extra water. Hope this helps.

Both of my sons used to get really constipated and I tried everything I could think of to help them. I ended up changing their formula to a Soy based formula. My favorite was Isomil. They were less constipated and spit up less as well. Both of them couldn't drink milk right at one, they had to drink Lactaid, a soy based milk. It was like they were lactose intolerant, but could eat cheese with no problem. They both grew out of it between the ages of 2 and three and have done well on 2% milk ever since. I do have to watch my youngest one, if he drinks a lof of milk with in a few days time, he may start to get constipated so we just slow down on the milk.
Just as a note, you should always discuss it with the babies pediatrician before changing their formula.
I hope this helps you out.

Try giving her a little bit of warm water that helps my son. And sometimes gas drops help as well just add them to her formula.

baby supoositories is probabally the only way the baby will be able to go at this point. it doesnt hurt them and it will loosen the stool so she can go. My son was like this and I would warm the prune juice and put a teaspoon of cooking oil in it and it would make him go, please chk with dr first though. (its like castor oil) it helped him and still does he is four now.

hello, same with my baby boy...please try using cotton buds rolled in sesame oil or olive oil...then insert into her anus gently, holding her legs up. then gently pull back...(please do circular motion when inserting)...then massage her tummy from right to left(circular motion)..then massage her legs downwards..... If she is bottle feeding...maybe change the milk...
