im 21 and i really havent had a normal period since i was like 10. It seems that as the years go by, my period comes less and less. I counted and in 2006, i only had my period 4 times the MAX.
I also had a cyst years back when i was like 12 years old i believe. I never got surgery for it.
I get really bad cramps and abdominal pain on that side often.
What could this be from? An old dr said its normal, but obviously it isnt.

you should get tested and see why you only get it 3 times a year. but every one is different. my friend wasn't getting hers on the regular and her doctor told her as long as you get it 3 times a year its OK. look at the birth control Seasonale, on that method of birth control you will only get it 4 times a year. you should talk to your Dr about getting on a monthly birth control if ur not already, it will help to regulate your period and should control cramps. but with the cyst have you gotten it checked lately to see if its still there, if it is you need to get something done about it.

You neeed to go see a Gynocologist(female related health issues doctor) ASAP for this is definitely not normal. The normal cycle is monthly and that is being prevented from occurring.I suppose it is possible for a cyst,a fluid filled sac, to be there for such a long period of time and they can be quite painful.I know that some cysts require surgery but there are those that seem to come and go.The only way to begin finding out what is happening with you is and again I stress the importance see a Gynocologist who may order a Ultrasound-only discomfort may be that the gel they use may be a bit cold but by the readings on the ultrasound machine the doctor can determine whats going on in there. I stress the importance for you may one day wish to have children and fo that the periods have to be regulated. Aside from the cyst still being there or even a new one having formed there may just be a hormonal imbalance. By the way cysts are not that uncommon for many women experience them and are not life threatening if properly cared for. Your Health Situation may be easily be easily helped but definitely requires the expertise of a doctor. Heres hoping all goes well with you

I have a friend who hadn't had a period in years. She finally went to the doctor, and it turned out that she had PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome. It's not serious, and I think the treatment was just to take hormonal birth control. Visiting your gynie is never fun, but it's better to know and take control of your reproductive health!

you should definitely go to the doctor and have some xrays done or something to see if thats whats causing you to have fewer and fewer periods. you should get a second opinion from another doctor cuz he seems like he doesnt knoe what hes saying cuz this seems like a serious problem. go get it checked out as soon as possible.

Check medicinenet.com. I was looking up something for my sister and I remember coming across something on the ovaries that sound like your symptoms.
