Newborns don't really need a lot of things, but here's a list of things I had and was thankful that I did.
Bottles- 6/4oz., 6/8oz. (if you'll be using bottles)
bottle nipples- 10 -20 in different "flows"
pacifier- as many as you think you'll need
diapers- newborns go through 5-10 a day
wipes- dirty diapers=dirty bottoms
diaper rash cream- just in case you need it
alcohol- for cleaning the umbilical stump
baby shampoo
lotion- apply after bath.
nail clippers.
thermometer
suction bulb- sucking mucous from nose and mouth if necessary.
onesies,- how many depends on how often you'll be doing laundry, I recommend having 14 for the first few months, 2 a day for 7 days.
booties/socks- 6 pairs
receiving blankets- 10-14, they are used for many things.
cloth diapers/burp towels- 10-14, they'll save a lot of clothing stains if you cover yourself before burping.
pajamas- 14, you can get regular clothing, but pj's are most comfy and most are easy to get on and off for diaper changes.
bassinet/crib sheets- as many as you need, your baby will probably be sleeping in a crib for at least 2 years.
heavy blankets- 2-3, I never really used them unless it was cold outside.
infant carseat

Lots of Diapers and Wipes
Pacifiers- Keep extra ones on hand its the worst not being able to find one when you need it and believe me that's the last thing you want to be doing at 3 am is looking all over for a pacifier.
Bottles-4-6 if your bottle feeding
Formula
Extra bottle nipples (different stages)
Bottle cleaner
Oncies-they are the best
Socks-4 or 5 pair they don't get dirty yet
Hooded bath towels
Wash Cloths
Baby bath tub-you can give them a bath in the sick but after about 2 months they are too big for the sick so bath tubs are good.
Baby wash : The washcloths that already have soap in them all you have to do is add water are really good for before their cords fall off.
Lotion
Cotton Balls and Q-tips
Alcohol
Gas Drops
Tylenol
Nasal Aspirator
Nasal Spray (Little Remedies)
Crib
Pack and Play
Swing
Bouncy Seat
Glider ( I love mine)
Cd's with baby music (Classical music works great)
Mobile
Baby Monitor (depending on the size of your home)
Lots and Lots of bibs
Burp Clothes
Car seat and stroller
Lots of receiving blankets (Learn how to swaddle it works great and is a lifesaver)
Diaper Cream

Well, if you are giving birth in a hospital, they will provide you with a lot of the basics that should get you through the first week at home. The give diapers, wipes, ointment, a pacifier, formula and a diaper bag provided through either Similac or Enfamil. But you should have your own stock of diapers and wipes. You are going to need bottles for either formula or breastmilk when you pump, and the pump if you choose to breastfeed. Formula if you plan to bottlefeed. Infant gas drops. Blankets, onesies, and sleep n' play outfits- lots of these. You should have at least a couple outfits and onesies in all the sizes because you never know how fast he/she will grow. My first grew out of his clothes every other month. You should get one of those kits w/ the thermometer, brush, dropper, nose clearer, etc. Lots of disposable diapers-they work better than those thin little burp cloths they sell, especially if you have a baby who spits up alot. Buy lots of these too, they come in handy and you can use them as dustcloths later. The book, "what to expect the first year" is great to have handy for just about any question you may have. A basinette for the baby to sleep in, but my children hated their bassinette. Don't bother buying a changing table, I used mine once and hated it. Depending on where you live and when you're due, you may want to buy a baby snowsuit to keep them warm in the winter. Obviously, you need a carseat. If you're breastfeeding, get ointment for cracked nipples. A pack n play will probably be useful. A crib. A rocker is great if you can afford it, but not a nessesity. And the one item I could not have gotten through the first year without...a vibrating baby seat that you can bounce and does not have a preset timer for vibration. All of my children loved their chairs and there is nothing that calmed them down faster or easier. Buy lots of socks because as soon as your baby learns to remove them, she will, everywhere you go. I've lost more socks than I could count, so always bring extras when you go out. Oh and a diaper pail. I used the diaper genie. It was fine until I had more than one child and I had to change it every time I turned around. These are the items I could think of, but every baby is different and you have to find the stuff that works for you. With your first, you're going to spend a lot of time and money buying and trying things until you find what you and your baby like. Good Luck!

it depends on the person and the kind of time you have..... Diapers go to Sams or a big retail store that sells stuff by the dozen Diapers are a major nessesity like 14 a day lol..... If you aren't breast feeding then you need formula my sis goes through like a good start can the lil' ones in like 4 days and shes 1 when she was baby she was going through it like crazy but that one depends on how much your baby eats. Bibs for when you feed the baby so she/he doesn't get all sticky and dirty. A bed or cradle or basinet something for the baby to sleep in so that you don't accidentally roll over on them at night its realy scary!!!.... Wipes of course with the diapers..... Socks bout ~10-14 pair just enough so if a pair gets dirty and you can't get to the laundry you got a back up. Same with clothes though usually clothes are the funnest my baby sis is 1 and has a larger closet then me. If you want you can get hair acces. for a girl.... some warm like flannel or warm material pjs. you might get some booties(shoes). if its cool or cold where you live then you need to get some sort of jacket or something..... you need blankets and binkies, a quilt never hurts but you dont realy need one.... then if your a paranoid parent get a moniter for the baby so you can hear when it cries they come in various kinds from listening to watching just what you feel comfortable with. I've found that babies like music so a mobile or a wind up jewlery box or something with a soft music sound. a rocking chair never hurts either but again you don't need one. Baby detergent just incase the lil' one is allergic to the soap you use.... a thermomiter for the bath. A baby bath or seat so they don't drown that would be mega sad. baby lotion , germ-x (hand sanitizer), baby body wash and soap, toys, rattles, stroller kids get heavy after so long, CAR SEAT!!!!!! don't forget hospitals won't let you take them home without one!!!. BABY EINSTINE MOVIES LOL never to young to learn.... umm..... I think tahts about it if I come up with more I'll add it GL and Congrats.

1.Lots of bibs because babies are very messy.
2.Baby wipes (lots of these) and diapers (not too many newborn diapers since they grow out of them so fast).
3.A changing table so you have a place to keep diapers, wipes, lotion and baby powder and so you don't have to change the baby on the floor.
4.A crib so baby has a place to sleep.
5.Baby soap (Johnson and Johnson's or Baby Magic), our soap is too harsh for them.
6.Baby lotion to keep skin soft.
7.Diaper rash ointment (they get diaper rashes and sometimes it can hurt really bad) desitin is the best.
8.Onesies (clothes).
9.Lots of recieving blankets (you won't believe how many they go thru in one day!!!).
10.Bottles for feeding, even if you're breastfeeding it's a good idea to have them in case you need to feed baby while you're out.
11.Formula (unless you're breastfeeding).
12.A good breast pump so you can pump your milk and store it in case you need to feed baby while you're out.
13.Pacifiers (optional), some babies need to suck more than others even when they aren't hungry...these do the job.
14.A bottle brush for washing bottles.
15.LOTS of clothes 3 to 6 months - 2T (they grow really fast).
16.Baby socks because their feet get cold easily.
17.A car seat for safe riding.
18.A high chair (when they're able to sit up on their own and are eating baby food).
19.A baby swing (to help baby fall asleep).
20.A baby walker (preferrably the kind where they can learn to sit up and then take off the bottom so they can learn to walk).
21.Lots of baby toys (rattles at first, then soft oversized blocks, push toys to help them learn to walk, etc...).
22.A really good diaper bag. You'll need a pretty good size one for the first year, then you can get a smaller one.
23.A diaper genie is also a good idea. It's a special trash can for the diapers. It eliminates odors.
24.Baby towels and wash cloths. The towels have hoods and they're really cute!
25.Baby laundry soap. Again, their skin is really sensitive. The next time you're at the grocery store, look on the laundry aisle. Usually on the top shelf they have 2-3 different kinds of laundry soap for babies. I'm trying to remember the name of it, bu I think the best one is called Ivory Snow. I'm not 100% certain about the name, though.
Tip:
Don't forget that when you pack the diaper bag you'll want to pack extra clothes for the baby. It's also a good idea to throw in an extra shirt for you just in case, but only for about the first 6 months.
Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!! Congratulations!
