Typically yes, he's been clocked at 104 mph.

Now yes, it is possible that somebody has hit 105 mph... and topped him on that pitch. However he's the real kicker which will prove he is the best heat thrower in all baseball....

Last year they kept track of how many pitchers threw a ball in a game over 100 mph, and how many times they did it. The top 5 on the list were from fifth to best....

5. Ambiorix Burgos KC - 5 times
4. Felix Hernandez SEA - 7 times
3. Justin Verlander DET - 19 times
2. Kyle Farnsworth NY - 26 times

and number 1....
1. Joel Zumaya DET - 233 times!!!!

Around 9 times as many as Farnsworth! He's the best.

Santana got to 105 mph once. Still not near the consistancy of Zumayas fast ball. Zumaya threw over 100 mph more than 230 times last season. He had guys swinging at his pitches before the at bat started.

For sure. Some other guys can bring high speeds like he does for a pitch here and there, but Zumaya can bring it for a couple innings. I've been at two games now where the clock showed 104 and two others where he was hitting 99-101 on almost every pitch.

Santana does not have a particularly speedy fastball, at least not like the one Zumaya has at the 100+ mph speeds.

What makes it really rough for batters is that he'll throw a few of those, and then he throws a nice 80 mph breaking ball that nearly always gets them to chase and miss. It's such a terrific combination.

Joel Zumaya is hands down the HEAT THROWING CHAMP of Major league baseball. NOBODY can match his arm power. And his accuracy is phenomenal for as hard as he throws. Just ask Giambi, Jeter and Sheffield from last years ALDS. Its no wonder shef decided to sign with the Tigers this year. Theres no way he wanted to ever have to face zoom zoom again. And who could blame him?

Its crazy how hard he throws. He was listed at 104 mph last year. He said this year he wasn't trying to throw so hard and work on being a better pitcher than thrower. When he was done he hit triple digits a handful of times.

Currently, yes.

He was clocked at 104 a few times in 2006

Yeah I believe he does.

I still can't get over that I saw he, Justin Verlander and Humberto Sanchez on the same minor league pitching staff.
