How was Nazism an outgrowth of the conditions of post-WWI Germany? Discuss the political, economic, and social context of post-WWI Germany that allowed for the success of Hitler and the Nazis. Please make a list of things for each category if you can. It will really help out.

The Treaty of Versailles, which ended WWI, brought Germany to her knees and forbid the build up of a military and demanded huge amounts of money to paid to other countries in reparation for Germany's involvement in WWI. As a result, Hitler and his Nazis were able to gain power because they preached nationalism and promised to return Germany to its "rightful" place in the world economically and militarily. Remember, Fascism was a nationalistic movement, and the German people were ripe for a leader like Hitler.

Chow!!

First off it's Fascism not Nazism. Second Hitler offered many Germans jobs and food and in return that he wanted to have total power over everything in the country. Hence the Fascism. Germany was going through a depression just like us at the time due to the war damages of the first world war along with the effects of our depression. When Hitler offered jobs ( people worked in factories making war goods for Hitlers new Army) people leaped at the offer and voted him into power. Then Hitler knocked off his competition and started mobilizing his Army and developing Blitzkrieg or Lightening war.

Hope this helps. If you need more information just send me an e-mail and I'd be more than happy to help you.

The main problem was the treaty of Versailles (as mentioned previously), the second (call me a racist antisemite if you desire) was that jewish families owned all the businesses ans had run of the mill, and were arseholez (something history likes to forget)
Germans hated jews because while they starved and their children died, the jewish prospered. I imagine a odern world would be the same (say if Muslims or Africans etc. started taking our jobs during a depression) would be capable of similar attrocities. Hitler played on the german problems and hatred, and rose to power to help his country become respected and powerful, removing the jews (main problem for them) and annexing Poland, which at the time was made up of a lot of germans, but was seen as an invasion, thus starting the war.
I am not being racist, i am just stating what i learned from a textbook from the 50s, before they started manipulating everything to villify germans like disney characters :)

The Treaty of Versailles (1919) was really a stupid idea (sorry, Lloyd George, Clemenceau...it was a stupid idea). Germany was a relatively very young country (only fifty years old), but it was founded in Prussia, which was defined by its army. Depriving Germany of much of its national identity allowed German nationalists (and Germans practically invented nationalism) to rally. Such works as Die Meistersinger (Wagner--a fantastic opera, btw) and Goethe's books reminded Germans of the great potential of the German people. Hitler's use of the term "Third Reich" referred to previous times of German greatness, and implied that Germany, at the time very poor (huge reparations and terrible inflation) and defeated (oh, you know that France loved rubbing it in Germany's face), would be great. Since some of the officers who surrendered were Jewish, and since Europe has a long history of anti-Semitism, it was easy to make them the scapegoat.

Oh, and it's fascism, really, but Nazism is a better term, I think. It's more specific.

(sorry it's not in a list. hope it helped, anyway)
