I was driving our of a parking lot tonight and didnt see that the curb stuck out into the exit area instead of its usual 90 degree angle. I hit it pretty hard but all seemed fine. Then i noticed that my car engine which normally stays below the 210 degree line was up against it. I let it idle for a while and it crept up to about 230 degrees. when driving it went back down to around 210. Its a 96 pontiac grand prix 2 door. The oil pan is pretty far back so i dont think it was that. Im not sure if the timing was thrown off or if that could make it overheat. I also noticed that there was a small weird noice under the hood but it could just be something that im not used to hearing. Im not sure what is going on so if you have any clue please let me know what you think.... Thanks

sometimes the simplest answer is the best if your car has an electronic fan ie:switches on when engine temp reaches certain temp then it might be worth checking the conections the two pin plug in the back of the fan and where it plugs into the temperature sender unit on the engine it may be the knock just made them loose.
to test the fan run your engine up untill its starts to boil and keep an eye on the fan if it does not switch on then it's either broken or the connectionor the temp sender has stopped working to check remove the plug and connect the two spade connectors on the back of the fan then replace the plug and the fan should spin if not then it is broken if it does then it probably the sender unit. the reason that your car overheats when idle and cools when moving is because when moving air is cooling your rad.

Well you could start by raising the hood and checking it out. Any number of things could be wrong, to many to list. Check it out in the daylight. You could have broken the plastic ground effects on the underside of your car and a peice could be lodged up under there preventing the electric fans from running. I once backed through a snow bank and a little while later my car started to over heat. As it turned out, when I backed through the snow bank, I shoveled a bunch of snow into the fan crowel and clutched fans being what they are for your A/C the fan didn't blow it out, it just stopped turning.

i own a shop, and you need to get it to where you can see it real good, and look it over good at this point you could have knocked the cooling fan out to where it wont work or it might have jarred something really bad and made it come loose also, take a good look at it ,hitting a curb with one can damage a lot ,it all depends on what angle it hit at,good luck hope this helps.

You may have broke a hose or put a small leak in it or put a hole in radiator. when you speed up it'll circulate the little bit of water left in radiator and cool it some.

Yep sounds like a busted radiator/radiator hose. Go get it checked out and fixed.
