Oscars are voracious eaters. They will accept pretty much anything, but the majority of their diet should be a good cichlid pellet. I use Hikari Cichlid Gold, and Hikari Cichlid Staple. Treats, such as live foods, blood worms, crayfish, feeder fish, etc. can be fed, but should be kept to a minimum.
Oscars are very fast growers as well. A small juvenile of 2 inches will hit the 8 inch mark in less than a year, and will eventually approach 13-14 inch mark as an adult! Recommended minimum size tank for these beasts is 55 gallons.

Several foods can be fed to cichlids, since you bought a small one, im guesing its a plain oscar or maybe a tiger oscar. Anyways, this is what you feed it till it grows bigger. one of the following 3 times a day in small portions, shrimp, blood worms, pellets, or goldfish (not recomended too many times a month)

They can eat many different types of foods. They are not really picky eaters. Try feeding your fish a variety of foods such as mixing live food with dry foods. There are many cichlid specific pellet foods available, especially ones that would enhance the coloration of your fish.

Oscars are carnivore/omivores ... they need real food such as frozen blood worms and some fresh floating vegetables such as cut zuchinni and leaf lettuce.
