a pedestal is a stand that one puts a work of art on; in terms of relationships, when someone adores or admires someone, they have put them on a pedestal.
However, when it is you on the pedestal (figuratively speaking), it becomes uncomfortable to be so admired and to feel that you have to live up to the other person's expectations of who they perceive you to be.
