That was true.
And German's did the same thing to Russians.
Not saying what hte Russian's did was right, but it went both ways.

Yes, I knew that, I'm German and I've heard of it, although my family did not get in touch with the Red Army at the end of the war, they were in the British and the French zones.
However this is really not a reason to blame the American government of that time, they had nothing to do with that. The Soviet Union was strong, and they were America's ally at that time because they had to cooperate to defeat Nazi Germany, which was the most important thing at that time. You see directly after WW2 the Cold War started and the USSR was a serious opponent, America could not simply defeat the Soviet Union and tell them what to do or not. They had treaties with the USSR about what parts of Germany got under Soviet rule and which got under American/British/French rule. They couldn't simply break such treaties, this would have made WW2 turn into an American-Soviet war.
And don't forget that what Russians did to Germans at the end of the war was only a fraction of what Germans had done to Russians before. Although this did not give them the right to rape innocent women, but in WW2 20-30 million inhabitants of the USSR (Russians, Belarussians, Ukrainians, Balts) were killed, about half of them soldiers, and the other half civilians. They paid for the defeat of Nazi Germany with more blood than any other nation.

That really is too bad but there wasn't a whole lot of sympathy for Germans at that time.
