First, essentials for what may be a very long time in hiding:

1. Articles to keep the body healthy, namely soap and other toiletries. I assume that you must appear to be out for a walk, so items such as pots and pans cannot be carried.

2. Articles to keep the mind and soul healthy, namely books and writing materials (such as a diary). This could include novels for flights of fancy, as well as philosophy and religious books to keep a positive attitude.

Being in hiding is a very exhausting endeavor. If you don't believe me, try sitting silently in a closet for any real length of time. After a while, you start to lose it. Anne and her family, as well as the others in the attic showed courage and stamina far beyond what many others would have been capable of.

Fantastic question, this is my favourite book of all time and i'm 27. I think as long as I had my family, my photos and something to keep me occupied even if it was documenting said photos I would be ok. Having said that, Anne Frank didn't know the fate that was in store for her. If I was in her situation and her age my answer would probably be different. It makes my heart hurt even thinking about what happened to her and all of those too many others like her.

Doesn't matter. When you would arrive at a camp, they would take away your belongings and possessions, anyways. What's the point?
