this is a Japanese word to describe women who have been trained since girlhood to wear very expensive kionos and apply makeup and do their hair in the same style as centuries ago. They learn how to play music, hold intelligent conversations with business men, dance, discuss the news, humor, and other subjects. They entertain male guests with very expensive taste. This profession is not to be considered sexual in nature. They are not prostitutes.

Before my knowledge of Geisha's I thought of them as highly paid hookers(no offense),but ever since I saw (caught)..Memoir's of a Geisha and a few documents of Japan here and there they seem to me to be like modern day actresses living under a strike code.
