Ha! Good One!
You got me on this question!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
what the heck was Leyland thinking?
granted neifi had a decent spring, BUT NO WAY IS HE BETTER THAN SANTIGO!
Shelton needs to get his head out of his you know what, and Toledo will help him...if he wants to make the big club again.
yeah, it was a VERY dusty baker move.
Probably because Perez still has a year left on his contract and is making 2.5M this season. I guess The Tigers want their money's worth. In my opinion they should bite the bullet and give Perez his unconditional release!
I'M NOT HAPPY!!!! =(

True, Perez is more of a veteran than Shelton, but Shelton can only play one position -- first -- and poorly at that. Essentially it was versatility and defense over offense. Additionally, Shelton has more minor league options and Perez didn't, so Shelton could get sent to Triple-A with no downside.

Shelton shouldn't even be an issue. With Sheffield and Casey on the team DH and 1B were covered, and they have plenty of others to play either position if needed.
Perez over Santiago is a bit of a headscratcher - does Santiago still have options remaining? If so he can be farmed out and recalled should Nefi revert to true form.

I guess that is why Leyland gets paid the big bucks. I am a big fan of shelton,,dang what else did he have to do this spring? Yet,,,I trust in Leylands decisions,, and I believe that before the end of April, shelton will be wearing the ol english D.

They'll be ok as long as nobody hits the ball to the pitcher.
