A few weeeks ago I found three hermit crabs that looked dead! I thought, "maybe this is what they do." So today the last one that was not dead was on it's back, without it's shell? .... It was moving all around today!! I didn't touch it .. I don't know what I did.. I have them in a 10 gallon tank. With a heat pad and it was at the right temp..

Scoop the crab into a glass jar along with its original shell and other similar sized shells (maybe one a little larger and one a little smaller). Sometimes that will encourage the crab to go back into a shell. If that doesn't work, boil your crab's old shell and a few others and let them cool. You may have to try to encourage your crab to get back into the shell by placing it in the shell.

Do you have a humidity gauge in your tank? Crabs often leave their shells because their environment is too warm or too humid. Most crabs do well in an environment that is between 72 and 80 degrees fahrenheit and 70-80 % relative humidity.

well maybe some crabs isnt good with cold or hot water to live in cause . crabs usually like to live in the sand or under the plant to keep them selve cool and keep away the hot sun. but i hope there wasnt no fishes in the tank if was then i think the poor crab got almost getting eating by a fish for foods. or it jst needed a new bigger shell to fit inside . why, , you you look for or get a emplty shell for youre crab to use for his new home .

If they are not dead then they are looking for a bigger shell to live in and if you do not have any of the proper size for them then they will die with in a day.

You need to give them a slightly larger shell. You should always have a bunch on hand, and when this happens put them all in the habitat so he can choose one.
