The first main land battle was during WWII was the Battle of Lake Ladoga in December 1939 between the Russians and the Finns

The first major Sea Battle was the Battle of the River Plate in Dcember 1939 between the German Pocket Battleship Admiral Graf Spey and the Royal Navy cruisers HMS Achilles, Exeter and Ajax.

The longest duration battle was the Battle of the Atlantic (1939-1943).and the most one-sided was the (so-called) Battle of Kansas (Also the most bloodless-Only the Americans were involved...LOL)
