Today i went for a catscan at the hospital but they needed a urine sample, i couldnt really sit up so they were giong to do that... i forget but its when they shove a thing in your urethra and it drains you of urine.

Anyways, the nurse couldnt find my urethra...

im not heavy, im 5'6 and 120 lbs, so im perfectly normal.

She didnt find it, she looked for a while and tried to get me to pee a little so she might be able to find it but i found it too hard to pee with her watching it... so i had to pee in a bedpan.

also, its usually located in the same place... she wasnt inexperienced.. I would be afraid to have a nurse be like "WELL I DONT KNOW WHERE IT SHOULD BE SO ITS NOT IN THE WRONG PLACE".

she explained exactly where it should be, but its just not there..

I do pee though, but youre all not reading my question, i didnt ask if i had a urethra, i obviously do.

I asked if this was normal, and the majority of you seem to suck at answering.

You might have been very nervous and tense, making it difficult for her to insert the catheter. If you are urinating normally, you have a urethra. For any medical procedure, even scary ones, try to relax as much as possible. It makes it go much easier, both for the nurse and for you.

If you have ever been number 1 in the toilet then you have one.

Its not you, its the nurse!

[Edit -- Listen, sweetheart. There's no need to be terse with everyone. We understand exactly what you meant and many people were flippant about it or just stated the obvious.

What is being said by nearly everyone who has answered was that you definitely have one so that is not an issue. The nurse couldn't find it so the nurse wasn't doing her job right. It's not you, sweetie, its the nurse. She should never have said that to you in the first place.]

Try not to worry if your passing urine you still have a urethra.

As you might imagine girls are harder to locate the urethra in that boys. So catheterising a girl is more tricky. The nurse may just have been unable to locate yours on this occasion, if you ever need it done again someone else might be luckier and get it first time.

LOL I am sure the nurse eventually found it but on some people it can be difficult to spot espescially on heavy people. Some people also have a fake urethra.

They were going to "straight cath" you, or give you a urinary catheter.

Your urethral opening is just the hole your pee comes out of, and the nurse was probably inexperienced.
