It is a ballad sung by a black male singer. I can't even remember the year it was out.

The dad dies in the song and it goes like this,
"I'm depending on you son, to pull the family through, my son it's all left up to you".
Please help me, and if you can't think of the name of the song please help with the singer.

"Patches" I know a version was done by B.B. King, but I think it might be older than that.

Ah. Apparently Clarence Carter was the first to record this song, and it was originally written by Ron Dunbar & General Johnson.
