I have lived outside Chicago all 37 years of my life.
The city has some of the most amazing architecture (a lot by Meese VanDeroh he's the one who said "Less is more")
Not to mention all the Picassos scattered around public buildings too.
The museums are first rate. Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute (free on Tuesdays) Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum are the big ones, but there are a lot of smaller ethnic museums too.
Amazing nightlife, crazy clubs, great theater and dining that will blow you away!
Shopping, well, The Magnificent Mile is amazing!
The people are honestly friendly. Yeah you're in a big city, but people actually say hello and smile your direction.
I will admit, the weather is well, we have 2 seasons, winter and construction. But public transportation will get you anywhere you want to go, city and burbs.
And if you decide Chicago is going to be your new home, please know this, we are The Windy City because of the politics, NOT the weather!
Hope you decide to join us!

Dress warm because it gets cold in Chicago. It snows too.
Chicagoans are great people. It is a big city, but the people are nice.
The weather here builds character, from tornadoes to blizzards, Chicagoans are resilient hardy people with a lot of City pride.
There are two major baseball teams, the Cubs & The White Sox. Chicagoans either like one or the other.
Political corruption here is a spectator sport here. There is a strong Irish population, and the largest Polish population outside of Poland.
In terms of food, Chicagoans take their Hotdogs seriously. No ketchup on a dog, that is a sin. Chicagoans also take pizza seriously and deep dish is the specialty.
There is a lot of history to Chicago such as the Chicago Fire. MRs. O'Leary's Cow kicked over a lantern and it started the barn on fire. It spread throughout the city. Al Capone and Organized Crime give Chicago history some character.
The FLag of Chicago is white with blue stripes and red stars. Each star on the flag represents a major tragedy in Chicago History.
There have been some great bands from Chicago including Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, Styx, and Chicago. Cheap Trick is from Rockford and REO Speedwagon are from Champaign, however, that is close enough for us to call Chicagoans.
The Movie, the Blues Brothers is a tribute to the city and it's culture. There are a lot of inside jokes in that movie.

It's windy. So, that could be good or bad. Depending on how you like your wind, I suppose.
