Brandi and Boncarles are both correct, it is a very bad idea to house them together.

Besides owning nearly three dozen reptiles, a half a dozen leopard geckos, I love to fish and I have many a time caught turtle when using fish as bait. So turtles do and will eat meat.

Actually, not all turtles are vegetarians, in fact most aren't. The turtle could eat the gecko.
-- if you look at turtle pellet food, there is protein, and some bigger turtles eat feeder fish. I wouldn't put my geckos in with one of those pigs (my sisters turtles do nothing but eat)

It is not a good idea to mix species unless you have a good reason (like educational display, or one eats the other.)

One note- desert tortoises are INCREDIBLY illegal to own, keep, harass, etc. They also make HORRIBLE pets since they need to make really big burrows to be happy and healthy.

Don't know why not. Turtles are vegetarians, so the lizard should have nothing to worry about!
