Let’s say when using a computer of 512 MB (RAM) and of 149 GB (hard drive)?

It is not ram you should be looking at but how much space you have on hour hard drive. How many programs you can install on hard disk depends on how much space the programs you are installing take. Like many computer games these days take 4GB of hard disk space easy. If you play a lot of computer games, it doesn't take many to completely fill a 40GB hard disk. If you are installing a lot of programs that only take up 500MB of space each then you would have a lot of room to install many programs.

Hard disks are so cheap these days, it is so easy to add another one. I saw 500GB firewire & USB hard disks selling for only $179 now on online stores. Storage is so cheap these days.

I can't give you a limit, it depends on what kind of programs, how big they are, and how often you use them.

A 149 GB hard drive is pretty big though, so you would be able to install quite a few programs. Somewhere around, let's say an average of about 300.

I have about 20 gigs and I can store all the stuff I want.

You would want to get more RAM for such a big hard drive though. Try to equalize it out, about a 100 MB ram per 10 Gigabytes.

Hope I can answer your question! Feel free to contact me with your solution or any other problems/details at any time, either on Yahoo! Messenger or by email.

There isn't a limit to the number of programs you can install.

There is however a limit to how much space you can take up, your hard disk size.

The other issue is with what services the program comes with. If the programs which you load have automatic services which are resource hogs then you will eventually run out of memory (unless you shut them off from "start >> run" type services.msc in the text box to open your services menu).

The only limit is when you fill up your hard drive. Actually I wouldn't load anything when you get down to 100meg of storage space. Windows need a bit of room for virtual ram storage.

The only other limit is that your system meets the minimum requirements for the program. Other than that, load them up and use them.

When you run out of memory, your computer just doesn't let you install any more programs until you free up memory by deleting programs or applications, or by buying more memory.

Some of the memory in your computer, will be used for start-up software, things needed to run the computer, etc.

Unless the box says so, its hard to tell how much the computer has reserved for those kinds of uses mentioned above.

well the limit that you trying to is like this...
For example:
The computer A:
1GB RAM
80GB Hardisk
800Mhz Processor
So the when you saw this first you want to installing program the important is read the minimum requirement. But don't across the limit...because once across it all the document and computer speed will be cut down...so the best way is keep from cross over the limit.

This cannot be answered. All programs are of different size (mb or gb).
The ram isn't important with installing them, only running them.

every program is different.
usually most programs are around 100-700 MB (rough guess here)
so i would guess 100-140 depending on OS
