A published author? You'd have to be exceptionally good. But just an author? No, you're not. I started writing at 13, for example. Didn't end very well. I kid. The younger the better, since the more time you have to practice. Just be sure not to forget to pay attention to spelling and grammar. I would also suggest you don't go off writing a saga before you pen down a dozen or two of short stories so that you can develop your original style.

You are legally too young to enter into a bidding, legal contract with a publisher. And you are too young to truely appreciate everything required of you, as a writer, to get a publishing contract. You are not to young to write, however, and that is what you should be focusing your attention on NOW.
Writing is a craft. And like all crafts, it requires commitment, dedication, and hard work. You don't just decide one day you know how to write and want to sell a novel. You must hone your craft. If you decide you want to be a doctor, you would have to study. If you decide you want to run a business, you would have to spend time learning how to do so. And if you want to write, you must respect the craft and realize there is more to it than picking up a pen and jotting down your "kewl" ideas.
For now, practice, practice, practice. Write. Read. Read some more. Then write. Then read again. This is what you must do to learn the craft. Ask your parents to get you a subscription to Writer's Digest or the Writer. READ THEM. When authors do poetry readings or speaking engagements at your local library or bookstore, go to them and listen.
And did I mention you must read? And write. And continue doing so. Eventually, you will gain an understanding of the craft and the industry, which will serve you well when you are finally ready to seek out an agent or publisher.

Of course not i am 13 and started writing stories when i was in grade 3 even though now that i look back at them i can't quite understand what i wrote but the storyline was always great. Never let anyone convince you that you can't do something because most likely you can. All my adult relatives tell me that i should be something completely different and then when i am older be a writer because you want always be writing stories but i don't want wait. As long as you want it bad enough you can do it.

Heck no! Nobody should have an age limit put on them for writing. Writing is a creative outlet for your imagination and personal thoughts. Who is too young for that?
Gosh, even Christopher Paolini is writing an epic trilogy, and he's only a teenager! So I don't see what could possibly hold you back.
Go ahead! Write as much as you want. You can even get your works published.
Good luck, and happy writing!

Girl, children around the age of 5 have been and are authors. Multiple good books have been written by people your age. Continue writing girl and don't listen to them. If you belive you can be, you can belive. Dont doubt your talent. Have a pen or pencil nearby? Put it in your hand. Paper? put it under the pen. Write. write like there is no tomorrow. You go girl. I know that you can do it.
The pen is mighter than the sword.
Go save the world. :D
God bless you sweetie.

No you're not too young. Actress Ally Sheedy had a book published when she was 12 called, "She Was Nice to Mice", and Christopher Paolini was only 15 when he wrote "Eragon".
