You should do a search on "forum", "art forums", "artist's forums", etc. Sign up and start visiting these forums. Create a signature with you website, etc. Look through the posts and start posting. Some even have a forum for new websites, projects, etc. Before long you'll start getting traffic.
Another way is to write some 300-500 word articles about art, design, etc. and submit those articles to article directories. Just do a search on "article directories" and began. You might even find some of your articles listed on the first page on the search engines for some of the words in your article.
Use your website in your author's bio box. Check with the article directories to make sure of what you can and can't post in your bio.

Just your unique product that people are looking for and you have less competitors, or you sell fast and cheap, or you add an another product as a bonus. And just your emotional content that provoke a desire in soul of visitors to buy. You do not need spam traffic . You need to address to a precise target. You need to develop a relationship with your visitors and potential clients. However it take a time and an effort from your side. All depends of you. Blogging frequently may help. Forums so and so. Social network helps a lot but also this will takes time. Finally, patience and perseverance is what I suggest you. i built a web with a unique product that i know is very controversial. But I know that I am right. So I write articles during an year for the educational purpose only. After 10 months , people began to believe me and now I have the first fruit of my effort. I know that in the next year will be much better.

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset : ( www.powerset.com ) A "natural language" search engine

Hakia : ( www.hakia.com ) A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia : ( www.wikia.com ) A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha : ( www.chacha.com ) A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap : ( www.snap.com ) A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

For Online Advt :

Since you have already have a website go straight to Optimise then Monetise and Advertise.

Hi..

Go to all the art shops and leave them your business card with your web link address...make it a special link for that shop.

It means creating a few batches of business cards...well worth the low promotion cost.

If anyone buys from your business card you reward the shop that passed on the card. You'll have a few details to work out in order for your JV to work.

If by "efficient" you mean immediate traffic, you must try Google Adwords.

Effectively used, Google Adwords can instantly reward you with targeted and focused potential customers.

In the long run, however, you must also work towards Search Engine Optimization.

Good question with a simple answer. Mike Worthington just put out a new e-book on getting recognized and advertise for free. His book of instructions is well worth the small price to pay for the simple steps.
