The sound quality of the written question makes it hard to tell if you are an alto, a contralto, or even if what you are doing is seen by others as singing to begin with.

The more practice the more control you will have. You need to
have control if you want to really be a singer. I have been singing since I was younger than you. I was a soprano but I can sing alto also. Keep at it. I love music. I play the piano and it gives me serenity and peace. Keep at it.

First off, what your grandmother was doesn't matter. My grandmother was an opera singer and I usually sing alto and no opera. I am 17 and my voice just barely came into its own. Last year my voice was just like yours, my choir teacher kept having to move me parts because I could sing all of them just cause my voice kept changing. I would try to sing alto, you may just like it. Your voice will settle soon.

That's pretty normal (to want to sing). Well, you're 16 so I doubt you're going through puberty. There are small alterations to the voice that "change" every day, but it's just your throat. I hear screaming is a good way to clear it?

there are many different ranges when it comes to your voice. i'm not fully sure of the terms but i do know that if you keep practicing you will only get better. may i suggest that you go to youtube.com and look up singers of the national anthem. singers like whitney houston, mariah, beyonce. trying to sing like them will help you to tune your voice. and they sing in many different octaves. but be careful if you sing high while your voice is changing, high will be your best, and vice versa for low notes. have fun.

Practice more nad train your voice everything and maybe take a song you know and get it with out words and sings with it and record your self and see what you think needs to change. Maybe join a group to sing with and train it more.
