You need rest. I'm a bodybuilder and I workout each muscle group once per week. It takes me a whole week to workout the entire body. It's never good to workout a muscle that is sore. I think you may be running too often. If there is not much you can do about that, then make sure you get plenty of sleep at night and eat healthy. Take multivitamins/minerals daily. That's extremely important for a person who is physically active as yourself. Lastly, make sure you are using proper foot gear. Shin splints could be caused by inappropriate running shoes.

Stop Shin Splints Forever?

Plain ice sometimes just won't do it. You need to find some kind of therepy tub and turn the temp down to under 50 degrees F! Seriously I'm a highjumper and it works. Also this might sound a bit gay but have someguy right before your leg in the relays do this. Lye down on your stomache and kind of rest your feet on your toes. Then have some guy press as hard as he can around your leg where the shins are and rub up and down until the pain is unbearable! Seriously unbearable. Then get up and go run your race. It works during the race and trust me when you take the baton you won't even be feeling the pain!

I run 1600 and possibl 3200 and i have recently had shin splints. Keep doing what your doing- its the right thing to do, but there is no "quick fix" for shin splints. Ride an exercise bike instead of running so you don't hurt your legs worse- if you aggravate them more, they will stick around a lot longer. I had to deal with mine for about 3 weeks.

There really is not a quick way to cure the shin splint. Just gotta ice them as soon as you get them or as much as possible. Some people just get them and some people don't. The good thing about them is you know you are doing everything right like running in good form and on your toes cause that is what causes them.

You really need to read "Stop Shin Splints" by Gary Buchenic (also available in electronic format here: http://www.shinsplintscure.org ). It's about how to permanently cure your shin splints naturally. Worked for me and for thousands of people. Good luck!

Fill a dixie cup up half way with water
Freeze it for an hour
Peel the bottom off and run up and down shins for about 15 mins.

By good distant running shoes, and buy some insoles that support runners.

Good luck
Get some rest too!

Increase the depth of the heel of each shoe,
with inserts.

If the increase causes your feet to come out
of your shoes, use athletic tape to keep the
shoes on. Also use this tape as a wrap up
and down each leg, being very careful to
not cut-off the circulation. (You can check
your circulation by pressing on the top of
each of your Great (large) toes, which
should first blanch, then pink right up.)
It is important to wrap your legs with your
toes pointed up. Shaving your legs will
help with the "yikes," when removing the
tape after you stretch and run.

Practice with this before Wed...
and win!

Not really any quick fixes. It really depends on how bad they are.

If they are not too bad i find that walking extremely slowly taking huge steps and stretching out my shins and calves on every step seems to ease the pain a little.

But if they are bad, you really need to stay completely off your legs and let them rest and the pain to sudside.

Lay in bed and have someone come over and gently massage your legs for you. May not cure, but it will be nice.

the doctors will tell you the only way to get rid of shin splints is to rest and perhaps surgery if it is bad enough...

if your legs are hurting..it is better in the long run to pull yourself out of the competition.
