I know you can copy data from a PS2 memory card to the PS3 internal memory, but can you do it the other way around?

No because PS2 card will not support PS3 games

Yes how this all works, You know that you can save the PS2 games by creating an initial memory card space on the PS3 drive.

However If you want to save or transfer existing PS1/PS2 data to or from the PS3 you need to buy a memory card adapter that will let you do it.

get a xbox 360 instead...its much better
