[(I'll be 14 6/14)] Can someone just explain the whole host family thing. Like the average cost and maybe a couple websites. Thank you in advance for any help.

Your host family will pay for you. If you go for a meal in the restaurant, they are very generous to pay for you. Unlike some countries who only pay for their own even if that person is their guest.
Entertaining at home is not unheard of, however, and hosts will often go to great lengths to be hospitable. Generally, as in many other cultures, the guest takes priority. He or she will be seated in the best place, served the best food and drinks, and generally deferred to. If staying overnight, the guest will also be offered the first bath, and the hosts may even give up their own beds.Guest is always the first in Japan. They treat guest very well. I'm sure you will find your day in Japan an enjoyable one.
Good luck for you. ^^ I went Japan last year and met with my host family and all these are my experience. I gotta say Japan is so cool, such a good place to live.
