I have "hundreds" of flying termite holes throughout the lawn. Last year was the same way.

The house was "termite protected (holes drilled throughout the basement floor)" 10 yrs. ago.

What can I do (so that I don't need a professional exterminator) to rid these "varments"?

Identification is the key. you should have your house inspected to see if a reinfestation has occurred.

Most termiticides in today's day & age only has a life span of 10 - 12 years.

Licensed exterminator

Are you sure they're termites and not wood ants? The termite has a body that is straight from head to rear while the ant has a convoluted body. They both have two wings on each side of the body but the termites wings are of equal length while the ant has one wing shorter than the other. The ants can be done in with most any good ant bait. However the termites are difficult and about the only effective treatments are controlled and require a license. The termite protection, unfortunately isn't good for much more than three to five years. Also they should treat the yard at the same time. They drilled holes in the yard all around the foundation of mine, applied treatment then closed the holes. Hope this helps.

Go to Lowes and Buy some of the Termite Concentrate and a Hand Sprayer. You can do it yourself and save alot of money. I do my own spraying every Spring and Summer and so far have seen No termites..

Sorry, but only a professional exterminator can do this, as they have the chemicals. Don't allow this to continue or in a few years, there will be no wood on your home.

Call the exterminator, it's money well spent when you see the damage termites can do.
