Is suffering what life is all about?
NO!!
and It makes me scared reading all the other answers to this question who seem to think it is.
Yes, there is suffering. Bad stuff happens to all of us. I admit sometimes I think that this world just sucks, and I can't wait for God to take me to my real home in Heaven...but that is not quite right either. God has put me here for a reason, just as He has everyone else. It is not that this world sucks, but that it is just as self-obsessed the rest of us. Gravity, weather; the natural earth was created to sustain itself. Humans, however, were not. We like to think we are, and that ourselves are all we need- all we should think about, because that's all there is. But it doesn't work that way. We were created by a loving creator to coexist and have companionship. We were created in the image of our creator, and He craves this companionship also. That is why He gave us a free will- so that we would choose Him. But we DO have a choice, and we DO live in this earth where the devil has power also- and he exercises it, and causes suffering. But the creator knows this and provides us with the strengh and the nessecary attributes to overcome. every time we have the ability to overcome. No one will ever be perfect because of our sinful nature, but we do have the ability to not only get by, but to have a full and meaningful life- a life that can give depth and meaning to others as well. This is why Christ had to come to this earth. He was fully man and faced every temptation, trial, fear, and suffering that we did- but He was also fully God- and WAS able to overcome every single temptation. Not only that, but he made it possible for each and every one of us to go to Heaven when we die by taking away all of our sin through his attoning death on the cross. All we have to do is accept that gift that he gave us- accept that freedom from sin and pursue a personal relationship with him. He is what gives meaning to our life, and living a life like he did is the key to overcoming anything- and overcoming it so much so that it overflows into an abundant life for those around us as well.

Yeah, but how much of that suffering is simply suffering and how much of it is suffering about suffering? Doesn't it seem as if we multiply our suffering by our constant lamenting over having suffered? I'm just saying coz it's something I've been thinking about.
Life is not about suffering, but suffering is one of the reasons why we're here. I think life is actually about self expression and that much of the suffering occurs when we try to suppress our true selves/inclinations.

No. You can choose to suffer or choose not to suffer. You can suffer over ridiculously small things and have major things happen, that most people would consider negative, and not go through a lot of emotional turmoil at the time, or learn to release it later. I have been through many things. But I try to remember that I have the choice.

Sounds like you took a "detour" and wound up on the highway of strife. Without pain, what is life anyway? If this is the way it is for you "all" the time, maybe you're a "contributor to all that suffering. Life is not a 100% "highway to hell" without alittle bit coming from ourselves. I was a drug addict and alcoholic for 20 years and felt just like you do, UNTIL I saw WHY. After 22 years sober and seeing much of the suffering of the past came from "me" I now see the rewards of "pleasure-e-er."

this is the biography of a true pessimist, in amongst all That suffering, was there not a moment of joy, wonder, love. There is no rime nor reason to life, it just is, and if one has such a negative attitude, then why does he prolong his misery, because despite his pessimism, he has HOPE that things will get better. Funny thing is that a change of attitude can make things look like they've changed a thousand fold for the better, when in fact the only thing that has changed, is the negative attitude.

I know suffering sucks but I guess this world would be pretty boring if we didn't suffer- in a way that wouldn't be positive because we would have no comparisons or challenge- it would be like sitting in a garden being fed and sleeping and just meeting nice people and only ever smiling.

Are you suffering when you use the internet? I doubt so. Focus on the suffering and you can list many in your life. Think of your blessing and you can see how fortunate you are. Compare with the unfortunate and the sick and you can see you are fortunate in many ways. It is your thinking that makes you suffer.

I think it's about how you handle your suffering. It's like that famous quote, "it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all." It's all about how you take it. You can complain about your glass being half empty, and I'll tell you, "it's half, be happy it's not less." Cheer up! Enjoy your time while you have. Whether you believe it or not, there are people worse off than you.

well, while it might seem as though that's all life is, Helen Keller once said, "although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." so, i guess, life is what u make it. u can either live life suffering or live life overcoming that suffering. i don't know. that's my philosophy!
