Man alone didn't cause global warming. More likely are combined effects that contribute to the warming and cooling of the planet, causing ice ages and the opposing global warming. The known causes are:

1. Variations in the radiation output of the sun, generally associated with the number of sun spots per year. The number is usually around 10,000, but there have been observed periods when there were fewer than ten in one year- this period was called the Maunder Minimum and coincided with a "Little Ice Age." We are currently at a high point with more sun spots and radiation than has previously been observed. This alone could account for two degrees F of warming (the difference between a full ice age and our current temperature is 8 degrees F). Further proof for this effect is the recorded parallel temperature increases in other bodies within our system.

2. Our current position in the Milankovitch cycle greatly affects the warming and cooling of the earth. This is believed to be the greatest cause of ice ages (which occur every 100,000 years at present, 40,000 years past about 1m years ago) and also of the opposing warm age. We are currently near the warmer end of the cycle, although the exact cycle is impossible to accurately predict and does change over time.

3. Us. Ozone depletion, greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation. The percent of our contribution to the overall warming of the planet is debatable- we don't currently have enough proof to determine this. We certainly have an effect on the temperature, but probably not as much as most global warming activists would like you to think. We simply aren't significant enough to be the sole cause. We could, however, slightly magnify the effect of the other causes.

4. Natural greenhouse emissions are also a cause of warming and cooling. Increased production in greenhouse gases has been found to exist and coincide with the ends of ice ages. The causes are unknown, but vulcanization and increased activity in plate tectonics are likely culprits.

The people who think we are the cause of global warming give us way too much credit. These cycles have existed far longer than we have and are much too powerful for us to greatly affect. An example of nature's power versus ours is the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991. It is estimated that the one eruption caused more greenhouse gases than people have emitted since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

These cycles do happen- but we can expect not to live through them.. and at least that's the important point for me.

How we get to the ice age from here (which is what would really kill most people) is that the polar caps will melt and release tons of fresh water into the oceans. The diluted oceans will then actually start freezing much easier- and once major parts of it starts freezing- we'll have enormous blizzards- ice will eventually form around the land- and magnetic pull (presumably) will pull it to the poles as it did the last time.

What makes things irreversible is that when the ice caps melt- they release the carbons trapped in the ice- billions of tons- which only makes more ice melt. All of this equals the salt levels of the ocean dropping- which their salt levels are the things that keeps our climates constant now.

Ice ages are generally caused by the synchronizations of variations in the Sun and Earth.

Take a look at this image:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Milankovitch_Variations.png
The top four graphs represent some of these variations, and the bottom graph represents glacial formation. The areas highlighted in gray could be called ice ages.

However, we're not sure man caused global warming. There is a big debate going on right now to try to answer that question.

i would assume by the way you phased the question that the answer you are looking for would be women.

or maybe because this is in the science topic, it could be the global warming itself which will cause the ice age. Read this and find out more...

Man is not causing global warming. Perhaps we're adding to it a bit but we're not the main cause. By the way, solar output has been increasing .05% every decade. The ice age was caused by the synchronization of three factors that affect the orbit and inclination of the earth and perhaps solar output.

There have always been changes in climate, for many reasons.

Right now there's a warming trend. And the scientific data shows clearly that this one is caused by us, mostly by burning fossil fuels. The best summary of that data is here:

http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf

The big problem is that our modern society has much development and many people in low lying coastal areas which will flood. And our intensive agriculture will be severely damaged by changing patterns of temperature and precipitation.

Animals and cave men could deal with climate change by moving. No big deal. For modern civilization, it's a very big deal.

technology in basic terms capacity "information", or "information". It did no longer reason something. Do nor confuse technology with technolgy (the sensible utility of scientific suggestions). additionally, technologies has nor led to international warming, it has in basic terms cotributed to it (the degree to which technologies has contributed to international caution is arguable). although, ASSUMING that technologies is a important cotributor to international warming; why is this? larger financial pastime, increasing prosperity (specifically international locations) and particularly increasing inhabitants, have all contributed to larger prefer for supplies; somewhat fossil fuels (fairly for offering eletricity). larger financial pastime demands larger prefer for electric powered ability, which demands larger intake of supplies. One answer is, of direction to shrink inhabitants (or a minimum of shrink its fee of advance); yet then we'd produce yet another difficulty: increasing elderly care desires.

Solar cycles? It doesn't take much of a change in solar radiation to have a dramatic effect on the earth's temperature.
