i quit my job of 5 years in a jail because of a confirmed case of hostile work environment. One month after i quit i find out that now my ex employer is investigating the "department" in which i worked, ok i'm not stupid, they're investigating me and they're investigating an accusation of falsifying documents. I still have allies in the jail. The leader of this accusation? My former supervisor, the one that was harrassing me. I get it, i understand the whole retaliation thing. I was asked to come down and give a statement, we talked for about 1 1/2 hours, never being recorded, no notes taken only my miranda rights. Finally the cop shows me 2 pieces of paper i signed and asks me how the mistakes could have occured, i tell her. Now, weeks later nothing. i called the cop today and she tells me she cant tell me anything. Heres the kicker i was never told why i was there, never accused of anything but she cant tell me whether i'm a suspect or is the department? do i have the right to know?

Listen to Meatball and get a lawyer. Your civil rights are getting violated like crazy. There are times when a police investigation can be kept confidential for a short period, but they didn't say any of the "magic" words to keep it confidential (technically,"priviliged"). For one thing, if they're investigating you, you get everything they get in their investigation. If they're trying to claim the on-going investigation privilege--they had to tell you. Anyway, listen to Meatball.

are you kidding me. what in the h are you doing going back on your own free will to answer a investigation questions. first you are not in the unioun anymore i assume. if you have allies in the jail your probably give mgmt the answers they need to incriminate a buddy. Your actions do not make since. i work in a state facility. you need to become aware that the professionalizm you held while employed does not pertain to you on the street. why wast your time. difficult incidents happen inside you know that. it's part of the work environment. did they compensate you for your time NO.
move on with your life. if you want your job back talk only to the person that can make a difference. everything with in the prison usually stays in the prison. talk to your union official. that is my best advice. dont go back for anymore questioning on your own free will. GET SMART

never never never never and never talk to the police without a lawyer present no matter how innocent it looks or sounds. never never never they are trained to use everything against you and that is why they mirandized you just for that. and to answer your question no an ongoing investigation cannot be discussed outside the need to know range. you could file a civil suit agains your previous employer but you better have your stuff together because it might start a whirlwind you may not be ready for. get legal advice it will cost you money but your freedom is much more important.

If it is weeks later and nothing further has occurred, I would not worry too much.

But if I were in your situation, I would immediately consult an attorney. You should never have consented to any questioning without an attorney being with you. Unfortunately, many many people make this mistake and end up suffering (often wrongly) for it.

Forget them. They looked and found no evidence incriminating you of anything, so they aren't gonna do anything more than keep investigating....right?
