Polyester was a new fabric back then, so we wore lots of that. The pants were bellbottoms and some had patch pockets on the front as well as the rear. Horizontal stripes were big, too.

In the later 70s/early 80s, some fads were: satin jackets, anything with rainbows & rollerskates, Chemin de Fir jeans (came in all sorts of colors like red & pink) that laced up the front or had a sailor button front, A.Smile overalls. Gunne Sax dresses were all the rage. For shoes, we liked Beartraps & Dr. Scholls. Hope this helped!

In the late 70's (grade 5,6 &7) I remember wearing corderoy pants in navy, brown or tan. The wider the flare at the hem of your jeans the better. Cowl neck sweaters with small horizontal stripes in shades of brown, tan, aqua, mint green & peach. Soft colours like baby blue & baby pink in tshirts. Satin gym shorts that were very short. Tshirts with iron-on decals or lettering were all the rage - having your name across the back of the shirt. Necklaces with your name on them were popular. Everyone wore plaid shirts with snaps, you always rolled up the sleeves. Kangaroo jackets. White gym socks with the stripes at the top were the only kind of cool sock for that age group. Fortrel (a heavy duty polyester) was very uncool for pants - only jeans & cords allowed. The pants were super tight & preferably with no back pockets. One friend actually did hers up laying on the bed while using a coat hanger. Hope this helps.
