I prefer a leather jacket but which one is safer in a crash?

Depends on what's inside the lining that really counts. See, a leather jacket(pants, vests, gloves, etc.) is a classic all the way. You can never replace the look and feel of real leather. But, Kevlar CAN withstand repeated drags, slides and even some flame damage before needing replaced. Now, the stuff that's going to protect you the best are the pads and your helmet. The pads(some places call it armor) actually absorb some force from the impact and can help reduce injuries(Yeah, I know. No rider likes to even hear about wrecks, yet better to get it over with now than later!) by taking the brunt of the initial impact rather than the bones in your body! Either leather OR Kevlar will last you a long time with proper care and maintenance. Just don't forget the armor/pads under either one! Also, Kevlar has been known to break down when washed with chlorine bleach in the water! So be careful of your Kevlar!

Neither will protect you from broken bones during the impact. Both will protect you from scraping all you skin off, right down to the bone, as your body is skidding down the road. The leather is not as cool and light as the kevlar. Unless someone can prove to me a huge difference in performance, protection or price, it's a matter of personal taste. The only real difference I've noticed is that kevlar jackets can come with some pretty thick padding in critical areas, incorporated right into the design of the jacket. It won't help much in an impact, unless it's at lower speeds.

well, that depends on what you expect from your jacket...

the only things mine does are:
1-keep me warm
2-attract the heat from the sun(when if ever shows up)
3-protect me from small projectiles(pebbles on the road)
4-keep my skin on when i go skidding across the pavement
4.5-keep my arms and legs attatched in said circumstance
i do not expect it to save me from anything but a closed casket... the only reason i wear it(other than warmth) is for when i die, they can still id me without using my teeth.

so it really dont matter what its made of, sure kevlar will work... but then you gotta dress like one of them sissy bikers...
