I'm 18 and I want more than anything to get a job at a clothing boutique but NO ONE WILL HIRE ME! Year after year I make a resume and go to a bunch of different stores wearing a nice outfit that is professional and I buy stuff in the store before handing them my resume and implying that I am indeed interested in a job there. It's always the same thing, I give them the hours I'm available, my resume too, they say "ok thanks we'll call you" and they NEVER DO! I really don't know what I'm doing wrong but this happens many times to me every year. Why won't anyone hire me? How can I get a job and impress them?

Well, first off, I wouldn't shop there THEN hand in the resume. It looks like you went shopping then thought "Oh, I think I'll apply here too while I'm here!" Very cheesy. If you must shop there, do it after you dropped off the resume, that way, it makes you look more like "I just dropped off my resume, but since I'm already here, I might as well shop". Or better yet, don't shop at all while you are on "business".

Being only 18, your years and years of applying are generally only about 2 years. Not a long time, especially for someone with no experience (I'm guessing here).

Another thing to take in to consideration....are the store's you want to work in hiring?? Any business can take applications whenever they want. But if they aren't hiring, the chances of them calling you for an interview are slim. Why bother interviewing people for a position that's not even open.

Also, are you conducting follow ups on your applications? It never hurts to call them and ask "I turned in a resume/ application two weeks ago and was just wondering the status". That will also get you known for wanting a job, but only do it once. Any more than that, and they'll start to think you're annoying and won't want to call you.

Another thing to think about...apply at other locations too, not just your favorite store. That way, you won't get your hopes up of being hired at just one store. You can always turn down offers, or accept one offer while waiting for another.

You're still young. Expect to be turned down for lack of experience. You don't always get what you want in life, especially with jobs.

You don't need to shop before you hand your resume, that makes it look like applying with them is an after thought, not the most important thing on your mind.

Instead, frequent the places you like, get to know the workers, memorize the prices and the styles, and never mention a job, get to know their family life and talk to them about it when you go there.

Give your expert opinion to other customers. And after a few months, happen to tell one of the workers you would absolutely LOVE to work here. What does it take for me to get an interview?

Oh and at 18, I doubt it's year after year of no one calling you. Probably more like month after month. You need to get a little perspective dear.

You need to find out when the actual manager that does the hiring is working and give them your resume.

Then, if they don't call you within a week, drop back by (only when the manager is working) and drop off a list of references & any letters of recommendations that you may have.

Then call or stop by and see them weekly. They will either hire you, or threaten to call the cops for trespassing.

Good luck
