I remember a time when the center of each of the highway lanes was covered with oil. This was with something called "Highway Tubes". We now have something called PCV valves that do the same job but don't allow this crap all over the road. This was the first "Emission Control" device introduced to the industry. Since then, and with growing smog problems all over the world, other devices have been added. You seem to have problems working around them, but if everybody went back to "the old days", we would all be "on oxygen". Please, learn about the systems and why they are there. Once you know about them, they're not much of a headache.

Yes they are, but as time goes forward, the emission parts are causing less problems and are being built better. You should try working on the cars from 1975 to 1995. It's not the parts but the space in the engine compartment doesn't allow an easy access to do the require repairs.

yes...
i ripped mine out, damned smog pump, EGR, catalytic converter... it took like 60 lbs off my truck.
problem is that emiss controls are meant to be there from the begining, not just an afterthought like on my old truck.
