I mean there's always one or two of the following elements:
A bunch of people trapped in a spooky old house
A death-like looking house-keeper
The phone lines are ALWAYS dead
There's a storm outside
A guy is standing in the middle of the road, etc.
The car broke down...
You know what I mean... Come to think of it, it may have looked scary years ago, but it gets quite old easily. It's gotten to a point where it's totally cliche. Right?

Because the pattern works... be it in folklore or movies, certain story elements are repeated from story to story because the audience has been conditioned to expect them. You left out the female victim running away in high heels from the slow moving monster, maniac, etc. and then falling down...

Yes, they're all cliche now. I mean, what's that new one about the idiot who takes "the short cut" and their car breaks down near the latest Hell Hotel so a bunch of killers are after them!
Hullo! NEVER take the short-cut and especially not at night! And after bludgeoning, stabbing and/or shooting the monster, don't go closer and bend over the body because he's just going to jump up and grab you!

Then there's the part where the lady gets into the shower or a couple gets naked (total vulnerability) or the girl stabs the killer & then drops the knife, then the killer comes back to life & gets her!

You forgot the part where, even thought there's a homicidal maniac or flesh eating monster lurking about, they all split up and go wandering around alone.
These movies have gotten so formulaic it's actually frustrating when you watch them.

Your absolutely right. Horror movies are now hilarity movies because they've become so predictable and cheesy. Why cant' people get new ideas and styles?
