No, one turtle is fine.

But make sure you buy him turtle food from the store. Do not feed him just lettuce or tomato. He will starve to death. There are not enough nutrients in vegetables to keep him alive.
Also, wash your hands everytime you have handled your turtle. Some turtles carry a bacteria that can make you sick if don't wash your hands.

And by the way, a beta fish will kill and eat any other fish you put in the tank with them, so apparently they LIKE being alone.

Turtles are not social animals, and are fine alone... but more fun to keep in small groups if you can do it right.

Keeping fish in with turtles is fine if you don't mind the turtle eating or harassing them.

Turtles are fine alone. They don't mind at all. That's what the guy in the pet shop told me when I got mine, anyway. He seems happy by himself.

I have only one and she is perfectly happy. I talk to her every day and feed her and let her run around on my floor sometimes. One is fine if you are willing to give it attention.
