i started leaving him home for just a few minutes at a time while i ran down the street at age 9. i progressively lt him stay home alone for longer amounts. Now he is 11 and he stays home for like 2 hrs at a time at most. he earned my trust. i always give him rules-dont answer door or phone, dont go in the shower, stay inside, etc.

I don't have kids yet but my mom left me alone when I was about 9 or 10 for short periods of time. She trusted me moer and more through the years and doesn't blink an eye at me staying home for long periods of time now (of course I'm 17 and old enough to take care of myself). I was a good kid and never let strangers in or burned the house down :)

i left my 8 year old at home for about 20 minutes last summer, when i came home she was trying to climb out the bathroom window ,but it wouldn't open (my 22 yr old daughter lived next door that why i did this) so anyway she had gotten stuck in the bathroom cause the door was tweaked, she was in there freaking out and bawling, i felt so bad she won't stay home alone anymore. she definitely earned my trust because she did try really hard to fix the problem herself, it was just not possible and although she was crying and all i totally trust her, i just don't want her to get scared that way, i think maybe when she's a little older we will try again.

Well I don't have kids, but my parents left me alone all the time when I was little. They had to work and couldn't afford child care so they left me at home and threatened a beating if I did anything bad.
I admit, I did do some bad stuff, but nothing they found out about.

I was left at 10 and I made no bad decisions, but I was a pretty reserved kid. You might want a sitter until about 12 or 13, and even then expect an occasional neuron misfire. You've probably already experienced that sort of thing.

Well, my parents waited until i was about 12 or 13 to leave me alone with my other siblings. They knew I was responsible to do the right thing. They did trust me.

The first time I left my oldest son was 13 and yes I trusted him. My youngest one is now 14 and he hasn't earned that trust yet.

I was first left alone starting in 6th or 7th grade. Being alone in the mornings helped me to develop independence early on (ex. cooking my breakfast, getting my selft dressed/ready for school) but sometimes it was scary being that young and home alone. Every little noise is scary and there is always the fear of someone breaking into the house. I'm glad I was left alone that young though because I developed good skills to take care of myself.

my eldest son was 4 yrs, I told him to stay on the sofa, and mom be right back- I would take my hubby to work and drop him off (7 Min's away) and he would still be on the sofa when I got back home ( NOW)
some of you may ask why I didn't take him with me?
yes I did for most part- but when it was raining, or very, very, cold I would let him be at home.
he was a good kid, and even to this day he is good... I would trust him with my life.

my middle is another story!
and my last is special too- just like my eldest.
