I'm not really that old...only 17. I took lessons for a year or two when I was younger but that was roughly 10 years ago. I'm pretty flexible but certainly not flexible enough to lift my leg over my head like dancers do! I'm just wondering if it's too late for me to seriously consider it worth my time to get into lessons again. I know as you get older it gets harder and it's best to start young but 16/17 isn't ancient or anything...thanks for your help!

As long as you have some flexibility you are not too old. You are too old to become a professional, but you aren't too old to take it up as a hobby. People in their 20's and 30's start taking ballet classes because they want to enjoy the feelings they get from taking the classes. Ok, so you can't get your legs up right now, but with a bit of work you will be surprised at what you will be able to do. I can do those things, but I get get on to my toes. I wish I could, I tried ballet at an early age and found that I just had the weakest ankles around. Was great with everything else, so switched to modern. Go, have a ball, enjoy yourself, you are never too old to do what you want to do and enjoy yoursself. The sooner you start the better for your body and ballet is going to do wonderful things for your body. Wish I could join you.

Your are not too old to start ballet (again). You are obviously are too old to even think about being a professional ballerina of course, but dance is a great way to gain flexibility, grace, strength and muscle condition (and to keep the weight off). Go for it.

as long as you can move your legs you can dance.

if you want to be in a professional ballet company... yeah.. you woudve needed to start AGES ago.. not that it isn't possble... everything is possible, and grace comes more naturally to some that others.

but if you want to just brush up on your own skill.. or if you want to do something else in the dance field, go for it. ballet is great place to start.

i say you can still take classes as long as you put all your effort into it. and to be a great dancer you don't have to be super flexible(even though it helps) but you just have to be able to stay fit and always put your all into it. unless your like thirty then you can still take ballet.
