I have an HP DV6275 that I got about 2 weeks ago. You don't need anything to use free Wi-Fi, all you have to do is flip the switch on the front left side of your laptop next to the headphone jacks. Hope this helps. (ps. I love my HP)

Most laptops nowadays have wifi built in (To detect & connect to internet hotspots).. You can connect to free Wi-Fi if it's available but that is mostly in airports/cafes.. Most of your neighbors would probably secure their networks with passwords so you can't connect to them..

If you get a wireless access at home, you can connect to it..

Hope this helps & good luck,

You have to find a free wifi hotspot. Just because a laptop/desktop has wireless built in or a card you still have to be in range of a wifi connection to connect to it. It the wifi signal you find has a padlock it is secure and you need a password to logon to that wifi connection. If it doesnt have a padlock you should be able to connect without any problems most of the time...Thanks

If you have a built-in WLAN adaptor in you laptop you don't need anything else. To check this, go to Control Panel - Network Connections - and see if there is a Wireless adaptor listed.

If not you will have to buy a USB Wifi adapter - to learn all about FREE wifi, visit:

Of course not. All the new laptops you buy starts by mid 2006 either incorporates the 802.11b or the faster 802.11g. The Free WiFi is using 802.11b.

plenty! you need to know that anything you send over an unsecured connection is in PLAINTEXT, so anybody snooping can read it.....do you want that?
use this wi fi wisely grasshopper, and you will enjoy it.
make sure you have your system locked down and i mean tight!
surf only when logged in on the 'guest' account; use the firewall in sp2; do not send any info about yourself over any unencrypted network (dob, ssan, personal data); and many other items, too many to list here.

wireless expenditures funds based regardless of if that's yours or if there is unfastened public wireless. in case you have not have been given wireless on your place, you will desire to purchase a on the spot router which will function your wireless base station for you to use on your place community. as we communicate, all laptops will call for the want of wireless, so do not complication with reference to the cost because of the fact it comes with it. and there is not any wireless avalible on airplanes. (nicely, perhaps there is.... i'm undecided)
