First, I was wondering if an insurance company (I have Healthnet) would cover it?
I want it for hygene purposes- no matter how hard I try, it never stays clean and it smells, and also because after I pee I also get a few drops that fall afterwards which is annoying.
How should I approach my parents about this?

You sound made up in your mind but I would reconsider, especially if you are a young person. The foreskin keeps the glans moist and lubrcated during sex, as well as providing fantasic touch sensitive stimulation during inercourse and masturbation. When you are way older than you are now there might come a day where you'll want your foreskin back. I personally know a guy who got circumcised as an adult and he said it was the worst mistake he ever made. As soon as he went back to having sex it was not the same, he regretted it bigbigbig big time. He was expecting improvement.

My advice: you have a foreskin. Don't look at it and see problems, find out how it can be an asset, how it can make you a better lover. That's journey worth taking. Also, diet has a lot to do with body odor.

There are a variety of ways to keep yourself clean and odor free. There are various powders and even certain natural oils that can neutralize the smell. You need to realize that it will be painful, will need many weeks to heal, and will eventually lead to the desensitizing of your glans (head).

Also, make sure you aren't using a harsh soap. It leaves residue and kills helpful bacteria that neutralize odor. A milder soap such as eucerin is better.

If you are truly practicing good hygiening (making sure there is no urine after peeing), washing with a mild soap regularly, and pulling back the skin when you wash, you shouldn't have this problem. If you still have the problem, you may have a yeast infection, something easily treated by your doctor. Circumcision should be the absolute last resort. Any doctor that says otherwise is a little too chop-happy.

I'm pretty sure it is covered by a lot of insurance plans, but it's also not too expensive. You are 18, so you can do what you want with your health, and what you talk to the doctor is private by law when you are 14+. If you are really embarrassed and have to go through your parents, just tell your parents you have bad pain like a hernia or maybe a bacterial infection and then talk to the doctor by yourself. The doctor sometimes can convince the insurance company to pay if he's good. The procedure is really easy to do nowadays, and they numb it. Also, you are less likely to get HPV or will never get stenosis (scar tissue damage) if you have this done.

If you have healthnet the only way they will cover it is if a doctor, you PCP or a specialist that you were reffered to by you PCP (also needs to be authorized by your medical group if you have HMO I'm assuming) or any physician or specialist contracted with healthnet insurance deems it medically necessary, because circumcision is only covered for infants up until 18 months of age.

I am circumcised and i love it. However you need to think about if this is something that you really do want to do. Talk to your doctor about it first. If it really is something that you want done, than I'm not exactly sure if insurance will cover it, seeming as it's not absolutely necessary, but your doctor might be able to help you out there. Also the actual surgery is nothing to be worried about. They put you under anesthetic and do it. Then after a couple of weeks you'll be all good.

I wouldn't! I know people that are circumsized, and they are less sensitive as me. You just have to take extra care, and give it a full cleaning. I would take a few drops after I put it away, over an operation. You also have to look at the risks of the operation. Ask your doctor about it before u talk to you parents.

Pull your foreskin back and give it a shake after you done. If that does not work try a little toilet paper to dry it off, keep some disposable wipe in your pocket and clean yourself after you urinate. Circumcision is such a drastic measure to take just to keep clean, my advice is your better of with it than without.
