It determines on your school and what grade you are in. I do think some teachers teach history of other countries but only lightly. A couple of years ago though, my history teacher made our class divide into groups and study other countries' history. It ranged from Rome, China, Arabia, and more, which we later presented to the class. I would like it if people do teach about other people's history for since we were little, we were hit with history of America.

I learned about other countries as well as American History. We didn't go into super detail about certain countries but we learned a lot about England, Germany, France, China, and a few other "bigger countries", especially those involved with some of the more recent (last 300 years) wars.

American schools don't teach enough about world history at all. And the American History taught is so skewed that important facts are left out.

A lot of states no longer teach their state history, either. I think it is because there is a need to spend more quality time on the basics, or at least that is the view from the "top".

Hey, that was a looong time ago for me, but I think you're absolutely right. Other countries' histories are really quite fascinating. (Most of them have been around a heck of a lot longer than we have, so there's been plenty of time for interesting stuff to happen!)
What really bothers me is that even the foreign history we did get was all European - Asian culture is incredibly complex and interesting, and they've had civilization for WAY longer than the western world.
Probably part of the reason this country is so insular.

It would be great to learn each country's history, but we only have so much time in school. Did you learn a lot about the history of the United States in Swedish schools?

American history has to be understood and mastered first. Although, in teaching American history, there is a lot of world history involved. World history usually comes with more emphasis in high school.

The schools of today DO NOT teach like they used to in the 50's, 60's & 70's!! Back then, they really taught about the whole world.

I think itd be a waste. most kids dont care about americas history why teach them about another countries and then quiz them on it? They only touch base on relevance to american history because this is america.
